The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife enjoys pine - covered mountains (including the 12,000 foot Mount Teide, venturing high into the sky, and cable car to take you to the peak) , unique dark, black, volcanic beaches, and the wonderful plains of Las Caņadas. Definitely quieter than its Playa Americas cousin, Los Cristianos is recommended more for the family crowd than party - goers - this is evident in retention of its old - world fishing charm. Last, but by no means least of Tenerife's major resort developments is the Costa Adeje, home to some fresh and funky new apartments and night venues, and specifically selected for its proximity to local pilot whales and dolphins, which can often be seen frolicking just yards off the coast.
